Science PGCE Training
The Science Department had pleasure in hosting PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) trainee science teachers from the University of Bristol. Groups of student teachers teamed up with the Science team to discuss the intricacies of lesson planning. They then planned a lesson to be taught by one of the science team whilst they observed the teaching in action.
Simon Neville, Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol commented:
“I just wanted to give my huge thanks to you and the Fairfield science department for hosting the joint planning session. The feedback from the students was very positive, and not just because of the learning to plan aspect, but simply being in school!
“The staff were all so welcoming and the students felt really supported. It was a great activity for them to do before their placements start next week. So many thanks again and please pass my gratitude along to your colleagues, for helping some very nervous new recruits!”
We have a close working relationship with the University of Bristol’s Teacher Education Unit and this is just one of the initiatives we support to help address the national shortage of qualified Science Teachers.
