Fairfield High School essential technology fundraiser

Addressing the need for equal access to essential online educational resources

Fairfield High School Parents Network have launched this fundraiser to provide the technology necessary for all students at the school to access essential online learning at home.

The Covid crisis has revealed widespread inequality of access to the technology needed for education and this is affecting a surprisingly large number of our school community. Some can only access on-line learning on a Smartphone, or are sharing tech with siblings. Many other pupils are using out-dated hardware, or have no access to any computers or internet at all.

We raised over £5,000 in Stage 1 of the appeal just before Christmas and these funds have now been passed to Fairfield School IT department for the provision of a first wave of laptops, dongles and routers. This has made a real difference to the lives of many students and their families, but there are still many who are struggling and the need is urgent.

In addition to this appeal we’re also working with DigiLocal who will be repurposing donated laptops and delivering direct to our students. If you do have any used equipment that you can donate please use one of their Drop-Off Points located throughout Bristol.

Online access for all students is now a necessity and not an optional add-on. It’s critical that these children do not suffer further and we need to address the problem now, without delay.

Anything you can contribute will be hugely appreciated and will help to safeguard a child’s future.

Let’s bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots and give all of our children a fair chance to shine.

Many, many thanks for your generosity and support.

We’ve reached £6,575

February 2021

The appeal fund total now stands at £6,575 and we’d like to say a big thank you for your help.

School staff are under immense pressure in the current lockdown and are working at full tilt, trying to ensure that no students are left behind. They are all incredibly grateful for the extra tech support which you are helping to fund through this campaign.

“We are bowled over by the INCREDIBLE generosity of the Fairfield Family! Thank you so much to all those who have donated”

“This has an immediate impact on our ability to provide online learning in this period. We are so overwhelmed by the level of support from our community.”

“Absolutely blown away by this. Thank you so much.”

We now have a more comprehensive assessment of needs at the school and are increasing the appeal target to £25,000 to achieve the goal of digital inclusion for all students.

In addition to this appeal we’re also working with DigiLocal who will be repurposing donated laptops and delivering direct to our students. If you do have any used equipment that you can donate please use one of their Drop-Off Points located throughout Bristol.

We’ve reached £5,975

January 2021

The appeal total has now reached £5,975 and we are well on our way to making a significant dent in the technology shortfall which is affecting many of our students and their families.

The response so far has been fantastic and we will be increasing the appeal target as soon as we have the latest summary of needs from the school IT department.

Online access over the coming weeks and months will be critical for all students who are now at home with no face-to-face contact with their teachers or friend groups.

School staff are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated so far and are busy allocating the donated funds to the most urgent cases. This includes an initial immediate provision of 24 laptops and 20 dongles with more in the pipeline.

A huge thank you to the school IT team who have worked over the holiday to ready the laptops and continue to do so this week.

“This has an immediate impact on our ability to provide online learning in this period. We are so overwhelmed by the level of support from our community.”

“Absolutely blown away by this. Thank you so much.”

Well done everyone – and please keep sharing the appeal. With a concentrated effort we may yet achieve the goal of eliminating the digital divide in our school completely.

Yes! We did it – Stage 1 achieved!

What an amazing group you are – to have raised £5000 in just 10 days for a project which will make so much difference to so many of the children who have been struggling to get connected online.

Of course the appeal will carry on and we’ll be moving to Stage 2 in the New Year focusing on local businesses and a wider network of contributors in an attempt to close the remaining digital divide in our school.

You are all so brilliant and deserve an enormous amount of praise and thanks.

Stars, each and every one of you.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

You’ve helped push us to £4,500 !!

December 21st 2020

Our Stage 1 target is in sight and edging closer.

We know it’s going to be tough in 2021 and we want to do everything in our power to help ensure that no child or family is left behind, unable to access the crucial online learning which will be needed. The school is doing its best but needs our support to make this happen.

The response to the appeal so far has been brilliant and we now need a final push over the Christmas period.

Please continue to share and to add a little extra if you can – every donation is important, however small.

To all of you who have contributed so far we are incredibly grateful. You should feel proud to be so instrumental in supporting a project which will make such a positive difference to so many.

Please continue to share the appeal to those who may not be aware of the Fundsurfer page and who might feel able to support the fund.

Every pound donated will make a difference to a child in difficulty.

The Fairfield Parent Network (FPN) – who we are and what we do

The Fairfield Parent Network (FPN) is a group of parents who support the school when they put on events such as the Winter/Summer Galas, Community Iftar and spring Drama performance. It’s a great opportunity to get involved with the school, meet other parents and raise some money in the process.

We are not sure which school events will run this year and what our involvement might be but we want to be ready to help. Below is more info on how you can get involved.

There are several ways to get involved with the FPN:

  • Donate: Cakes, drinks, food and secondhand uniform etc, for the FPN to sell at events
  • Help to sell: Cakes, drinks, food and secondhand uniform etc, at school events
  • Anything new: we are always on the look out for new ways in which to raise money and become more involved

Join our WhatsApp group:

We use this group to let parents know what help is needed and when.  Email [email protected] with your name and mobile number and we’ll join you to this group.

Why  join the FPN?:

We asked our current members why they joined the FPN….here is what they said:

“It’s a good laugh”

“You lose touch with school a bit when your kids go to Secondary school.  Joining the FPN helped me to feel part of a school community again.”

“I get to go to school events even when my kids aren’t going because the FPN needs me, it’s good!”

“It’s nice to feel you’re helping the school.”

“I get to meet other parents with children in different year groups so it helps me to understand how things work.”

“When the parent network communicates with the school I feel that our opinions are listened to and valued.”
