Women’s Aid Workshops Support Year 9 Students in Understanding Healthy Relationships
Team Fairfield was pleased to welcome Women’s Aid to deliver a series of informative and thought-provoking workshops for its Year 9 students.
Women’s Aid is a charitable organisation dedicated to ending violence against women and children. Their visit provided an important opportunity for students to engage with key issues affecting young people today and to explore how these topics relate to their own experiences and the wider world around them.
The workshops covered a range of themes, including gender stereotypes, healthy and equal relationships and domestic abuse. These sessions encouraged students to think critically about the messages they encounter both online and offline, and to consider the importance of respect, equality, and empathy in all relationships.
Students participated with maturity and respect, contributing thoughtfully to discussions and demonstrating a willingness to engage with sometimes challenging but essential topics. Their responses reflected a growing awareness of the importance of understanding healthy relationship dynamics and recognising harmful behaviours.
In recent years, schools have increasingly observed the influence of online content and communities that can promote misogyny, including “red pill” rhetoric and aspects of the so-called “manosphere.” In this context, opportunities for open, guided discussion are vital in helping young people to navigate these influences safely and responsibly.
By creating space for honest conversations, Fairfield aims to support students in developing a balanced understanding of relationships and in challenging harmful stereotypes and attitudes. These discussions form an important part of a wider commitment to personal development and safeguarding.
