Edel Cronin highlights the many activities and celebrations making Term 2 so special
Dear Parents and Carers
As we approach the end of term, it’s a great time to reflect on the many exciting events and initiatives that have taken place at Fairfield High School recently. It’s been a busy few weeks, with our school community coming together in numerous ways to support and engage with important causes, both within and beyond the classroom.
The Humanities Team recently took a group of students to the Imperial War Museum, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore artefacts and exhibitions that bring history to life, particularly in relation to the impact of conflict. A huge thank you to all those involved in organising this educational trip. The trip to The Eden Project was also a big success, with a report written very articulately by one of our students Ysee.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Mrs Putman and the Feminist Society (Fem Soc) for their hard work on the White Ribbon Campaign this year. Their efforts in raising awareness about domestic violence and encouraging men and boys to take a stand against abuse have been invaluable, and we are proud of the difference they’ve made.
We also want to thank Miss Gimenez for organising and everyone who supported the recent fundraising event for Valencia. The response has been incredible, and it’s heartwarming to see our school community come together for such a meaningful cause and support other educators. If you would still like to donate, you can do so here: https://gofund.me/201d8de4
Another thank you goes to Mr Humphrey and the team who have raised considerable awareness and much needed funds for Movember.
In other exciting news, the recent Integrate trip to Chatham House was a standout event, where current FHS students and alumni participated in a panel discussion on knife crime, joined by MPs and the Police Commissioner. This event provided a platform for our students to share their views and help raise awareness of this important issue in the community. And we look forward to members of the FHS Project Fearless Team attending the Integrate premier of this year’s film before the end of term.
We also hosted our Year 9 Options Evening, which gave students and parents the chance to explore the wide range of subjects available for GCSEs. We hope this evening was helpful in guiding students as they make important decisions about their future studies. Following this, our Year 11 Parent/Guardian Evening was another key event, allowing parents and guardians to meet with teachers and discuss how their children are progressing as they prepare for their exams and reflect on their recent mock exams. Thank you to everyone who attended, we always value families being in our building.
Our Languages Day was a wonderful celebration of the diversity of languages spoken at Fairfield, with students engaging in a variety of activities that showcased the richness of our school community. We are proud of the enthusiasm and talent our students demonstrated during this special day. Looking ahead, we are excited for the upcoming Christmas Dinner at the end of term, a festive tradition that brings our school community together to celebrate the season.
To close the term, we would also like to invite you to our Winter Gala on 18th December from 6-8 pm. This event will bring students, staff, and families together to celebrate the end of the term and to remember Vincent Le Goascoz, a beloved member of our school community. We hope to see many of you there for what promises to be a memorable evening.
As we continue to improve our school environment, we are currently seeking support for several exciting projects. If anyone would like to donate towards any of the following, we’d be incredibly grateful. Please email me directly at [email protected]. Alternatively, you can get involved in our fundraising efforts through the Fairfield Parents Network — every bit of help makes a huge difference! Thanks to those who have successfully donated the following:
- Prefect Sports Trophy (£100): Encouraging lunchtime sports with a trophy for our prefect-led competitions.
Here are the items we’re hoping to fund:
- Basketball Hoops for the Key Stage 4 Area (£1800-3600): Help us promote physical activity with new basketball hoops for our students.
- Washing Facilities for Prayer Club (£3000-6000): We’re aiming to provide our Prayer Club with dedicated washing facilities.
- Eco Team Balcony Garden (£200): Our Eco Team needs a little extra funding to continue their beautiful and sustainable garden space.
- Food for Culture Day (£200-500): Support our Culture Day by helping us provide a feast that celebrates the diverse backgrounds of our students.
- Balloon Arch for Year 11 Prom: Let’s give our Year 11s an unforgettable prom with a stunning balloon arch to celebrate their achievements!
As we finish up the term, we want to express our gratitude to all our students, staff, and families for their ongoing support of Fairfield High School. We are incredibly proud of all the achievements and the positive impact our school community continues to have. We look forward to a joyful end to the term and wish you all a wonderful holiday once they arrive.
Best wishes,
Edel Cronin
