Student Voice – Ysee shares Eden Project highlights
A big thank you to Ysee for sharing her experiences following a trip to The Eden Project
For the Eden Project trip, we arrived at school in the morning, and went into a coach, from which we could watch the sunrise. Upon arrival at the Eden Project, we were split into two groups, and our group was led by a lovely member of Eden Project staff (called Claire) into a room, in which we took part in a workshop. Part of the workshop was inside the room, the other part in the Rainforest Biome. The exploring in the Rainforest Biome was easily my favourite part of the trip, as it was completely full of exotic plants, trees, flowers and an artificial waterfall that flowed through the whole biome. There were even a couple of red-crested tropical birds wandering around, and geckos in some of the trees! The Biome structure itself was huge, built entirely of scientific clingfilm hexagons stretched between a steel frame. We spent a good hour in the biome, taking notes on plants and their adaptations and wandering around freely at our own pace before regrouping at the workshop room to share what we had learnt.
After this, both groups joined, and we had lunch. During lunch, most of us had pack lunches but there was also a good (but pricey!) café at the site, where many people chose to eat. We also had a chance to buy items from the gift shop at this point. After lunch, we were led to the ice rink by our teachers. Ice skates were put on, and we all joined the ice rink, which was only permitted to Fairfield students and staff. There were skating aids for less confident skaters, and everyone enjoyed skating – although almost everyone fell over at some point! This was also one of the most fun moments in the trip, as some teachers also took to the ice. Mr Walker seemed to have a hidden talent for this. Then, we returned to the coach and went home, watching the sunset and arriving before 18:20. This whole trip was the most exciting of the year. It would not have been possible without the lovely staff at Eden and our wonderful teachers setting up this trip for us.
