A year to be proud of as we celebrate Fairfield’s strong and unique community
Dear Parents and Carers
As we come to the end of another incredible year at Fairfield, I want to take a moment to reflect on just how proud I am of our students, staff, and wider school community. It has been a year filled with so much creativity, excitement and achievements beyond what we could have dreamed of in September. Whether in the classroom, out on trips, on stage, or representing our school in the wider community, our students have truly excelled, while supported by our wonderful staff and families.
We began this term celebrating our rich and diverse community with our Culture Day, where students shared cultural clothing and delicious food from around the world. We are already looking ahead to our Winter Culture Day on 23rd October – so get planning now! If you or someone you know would like to offer a talk or contribute food for the event, we’d love to hear from you. Please email me [email protected]
Our students tackled GCSE exams and mock exams across all year groups with great focus and determination. We’re confident their results will reflect all the hard work they’ve put in, and prom was a wonderful way to end the year groups time with us; both staff and students enjoyed a wonderful night of food, photos and dancing.
Our Year 10 students have had a particularly eventful term. From their Work Experience placements to an inspiring Photography Trip to the Botanical Gardens, they’ve explored the world of work and creativity alike. Their Geography Fieldwork Trips have taken them out into the landscape to deepen their understanding of the environment as part of their coursework module, and their Citizenship project saw them raising funds and awareness for a range of charities and causes close to their hearts. These projects will link directly to their GCSE exams next year. We were additionally so proud of our Year 10s who have sat their first ‘real’ GCSE – RE.
Meanwhile, students across all year groups have been making the most of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. The Project Zazi trip to the MShed was a brilliant chance to explore identity and heritage, and Year 9 students took part in an engaging Citizenship trip to the local courts. Key Stage 3 students continue to take part in the Future Brunel Project, with ongoing trips that spark their interest in science and innovation.
Our Year 8 students made unforgettable memories at Exmouth Camp, while Year 7 took part in a unique Art workshop, with their work now being displayed as far away as Taiwan. Year 7 and 8 students also travelled to Oxford to stretch their problem-solving muscles in the Oxford Maths Trip, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented our school.
Team Fairfield joined Orchard School for a Spelling Bee, and our talented performers wowed audiences in our school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which included a performance shared with our primary school community at May Park. It was brilliant to see Shakespeare get a Bristol and Fairfield twist!
Our younger students have made a strong start to life at Fairfield, with our Year 6 Induction Day and Evening warmly welcoming the next generation of Fairfield students. We also celebrated our place in the wider city community by hosting a brilliant event as part of the Bristol Refugee Festival, honouring the stories, resilience, and contributions of refugees in Bristol.
Aside from all this, we’ve been keeping active! From our vibrant Sports Days for Years 7–10, to a lively and joyous Summer Fiesta, and our action-packed Enrichment Day, which will include a fantastic array of trips, every student has the opportunity to engage in learning and fun in a new environment. Not to forget our visit to the Roman Baths, which brought ancient history to life.
As we look ahead, I want to remind all families that from September the school day will start at 8:30am and finish at 3:10pm. Please ensure your child is in school on time every day, ready to make the most of all that Fairfield has to offer.
And finally, a gentle reminder that on the last day of term, Tuesday 22nd July, we will finish at 12:40pm.
Thank you for all your ongoing support this year. Whether it’s attending events, encouraging your child at home, or working with us in partnership, it makes such a difference. We wish all our families a restful, happy summer and can’t wait to see everyone again in September, ready for another fantastic year.
Edel
