Fairfield shines in Bristol Y7 Spelling Bee
The English department was delighted to attend the third annual final of the Bristol Year 7 Spelling Bee – a nail-biting event. Eight schools sent competitors to take part in the city-wide competition on the 20th June. Students spent time getting to know each other during an ice-breaker game, allowing them to connect with other young people and relieve some of their nerves. This was followed by several intense rounds of spelling.
The atmosphere in the room was energetic, and the audience of students and teachers kept the spellers motivated with warm encouragement. Comfortably tackling such tricky words as “permeable”, “overzealous” and “ineffability”, the Y7 students were of an incredibly high standard.
Fairfield Y7 managed two students in the final ten, but did not win this year.
Well done to the super supporters and especially Eve and Isaac from 7L, and Jasper from 7N for competing.
