Edel Cronin shares Term 4’s many enriching activities and events
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move into the final weeks of term and spring has arrived, I am delighted to share with you the many enriching activities and events that have taken place in our school community. Our students continue to engage in diverse learning opportunities that broaden their knowledge, inspire creativity, and develop their leadership skills.
This term our students have engaged with a workshop led by Dr Siza Dube who led a Black Feminisms Workshop and later this year will offer a similar workshop for parents and carers.
Meanwhile, students in Performing Arts enjoyed a spectacular production of Swan Lake at the Bristol Hippodrome, an unforgettable experience that enriched their understanding of dance and performance.
Students from KS3 and KS4 participated in a workshop led by Dove, contributing to discussions on branding and advertising on a national scale. In addition, our Prefects led assemblies on Colourism, featuring a powerful video created by FHS students in collaboration with Integrate UK and other Bristol students. This assembly explored the impact of colourism on women and girls and emphasised the importance of allyship as part of our Gender Equality Theme, linking to International Women’s Day.
We also celebrated World Hijab Day, with discussions fostering inclusivity and understanding, while our Feminist Society led assemblies and bake sales, encouraging students to think critically about gender equality.
Our KS3 students took part in Romeo and Juliet workshops with the University of Bristol. Additionally, we welcomed KS2 students for our Magic Morning, where they experienced Art and RE lessons, inspiring a love for creative and reflective learning.
Our GCSE Dance students delivered their practical exam performances, showcasing their exceptional talent and hard work. Fine Art, and Photography students completed their exams, producing world-class final pieces that we are immensely proud of.
Students in the Eco Club participated in a Climate Change trip, gaining further understanding of environmental sustainability. Our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh students embarked on an expedition in the Mendips, building resilience and teamwork skills. Year 9 students also took part in the Future Brunel project, exploring engineering and innovation.
We marked Young Carers Action Day in tutor time, recognising and celebrating the contributions of young carers within our school community.
