Exploring Black Feminism: A Workshop Series with Siza Dube
In an exciting step towards fostering an inclusive and diverse educational experience, 32 students from across the school have begun participating in a series of Black Feminism workshops, led by Siza Dube, a UCL lecturer and researcher. This marks the first of two workshops aimed at expanding students’ understanding of Black feminism, its significance and impact on society.
This initiative follows a whole-school virtual assembly on Black Feminism, delivered by Siza. The assembly sparked interest and encouraged students to sign up for the workshops, which were designed to provide a deeper, more interactive learning experience. Students were split into two groups to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to engage in discussions and contribute to the shared learning journey.
The workshops are part of a larger program developed through a collaborative effort between the school and Siza, and are an outcome of online meetings to determine and shape the programme of learning.
Looking ahead, the next steps include mentorship opportunities provided by Siza for the students and, hopefully, a trip to UCL to further enrich their understanding of Black Feminism in an academic setting. This initiative demonstrates Fairfield’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
