The Principal celebrates all that Term 5 has to offer
Dear Parents and Carers
As we move towards the summer term, I hope we are all enjoying the spots of sunlight as they appear and the longer days. It was great to see so many parent and carers join us for Year 7 Parent/Carer Evening this term, and look forward to welcoming the parents and carers of Year 8 on 23rd May.
We have had much to celebrate since I last wrote to you. Miss Campbell, Assistant Vice Principal was awarded for her work both in Fairfield and across the wider community as part of High Sheriff of Bristol Awards. We are so proud of Miss Campbell and her unwavering commitment to create a school culture and local community where every individual feels valued, respected and empowered. It was also wonderful to see one of our Governors, Kay, and many of our students recognised as part of the awards.
One project which has been support by Miss Campbell is our work with UWE. The RESPECT project, which has been taking place over many years, saw a billboard erected in St Werburgh’s in recent weeks to spread their message to a wider audience. It was great to see Fairfield students involved in putting up the billboard. We also saw Year 8 students participate in the next phase of the UWE work; more information on this in the coming months.
Groups across the school have been celebrating as our Fairfield Parents Network has supported a range of groups including Gardening Club and Humanities Festival with their recent fundraising. Gardening Club will be using the money to buy some planets and tools for their allotment area, while Humanities Festival will be using their funding to hire a speaker to talk about their lived experience of seeking asylum in England.
Mr Francis bid farewell after four years to Year 11 in their Leavers Assembly. Mr Francis has led the year group since Year 8, so this assembly was a wonderful trip down memory lane for both students and tutors. As is typical for this time of year, we saw our GCSE exams start on one of the hottest days of the year. Our Year 10 RE students and Year 11 students have been rising to the challenge of GCSEs in recent weeks and we look forward to continuing to support them across the coming weeks.
On the sports front, our Year 10 football team has been showcasing their talents with remarkable success. We invite you all to join us on Tuesday, 21st May, at Ashton Gate Stadium as they compete in their upcoming shield match. Let us cheer them on as they continue to make us proud both on and off the field.
We have also seen trips to local areas of interest for our KS3 Geographers and to SS Great Britain.
We were delighted to see the highest ever number of applications for Year 7 September 2024 places. Our transition program is in full swing with Mr Shand visiting local primary schools to meet the Year 6 students who will join our community shortly, while many other students have joined us for Magic Morning. More information on summer school and other aspects of transition are available here.
