Urban Planning and Regeneration Workshop
28 Year 9 students who will be studying GCSE Geography enjoyed a taste of the work involved in Urban Planning and Regeneration.
On Tuesday 28th June, they took part in a role-play workshop which simulated an Urban Planning Issue organised by visitors from “UrbanPlan”. This workshop has been provided to only 25 schools this year, including schools in Germany.
In an imaginary town in UK, students worked in groups to form Property Development Companies which competed to win the contract to regenerate the town centre. Working to a detailed brief, they made decisions on how best to use a set budget to turn a derelict town centre into a sustainable, thriving community and economic hub. Students learned about the work of urban planning and developed key employability skills in addition to gaining an interesting and valuable discussion point on their CVs.
All in all, a fantastic experience.
