RE trip to the Bristol Buddhist Centre
Some of our Year 8 students went on an RE trip to the Bristol Buddhist Centre on Gloucester Road on Thursday 16th May for the morning with Miss Downing, Mr Warner-Meanwell and Miss Bell. The session with the Buddhist teacher, who explained their branch of Buddhism was a non-monastic group, included looking at some of the key Buddhist teachings. This session deepened the knowledge and understanding of the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold path that we began looking at in our RE lessons. After this the students were taken through to the Shrine Room (image below) in which they experienced a meditation session. Following the meditation the students reflected on their experience of meditation and how challenging it could be to really focus of the mind. We then spoke a bit about the important of focusing on the self during these experiences and trying to not worry about how others around are acting or how they might view us. It was great to see students making links to what we have been learning about this term and they did a great job at representing Fairfield.
