News from our SEND Faculty
It has been another busy few months! Our new student group NASA (Neurodiversity And SEND Awareness) has continued to lead and contribute to discussions about how the school can be more supportive of students with SEND. They are adding to our posters to celebrate neurodivergent icons to ensure we have a diverse representation, and are really pleased with the staff posters that have gone up. Posters like these help students to feel fully valued within our community and feel confident about what they offer our community.
Following on from the success of our recorded assembly interviewing Kai Syng Tan about how ADHD empowers her work, NASA has worked on a tutor group presentation for Autism Awareness Month (see their brilliant powerpoint here to raise awareness amongst the Fairfield community). We have enjoyed getting lots of positive feedback on that and we hope it will support everyone in better understanding autistic experiences of the world.
As we move into Term 6, staff across the school will be engaging in training in a range of SEND needs so that next year we are even more skilled at adapting our school for individual students. We are currently in the middle of the transition process for our new year 7 in September, and working hard to revise our processes to ensure all our students feel welcomed and seen as individuals from the very start of their journey with us.
