EAL Department celebrates students’ valued contributions
The EAL department would like to celebrate and say farewell to Shehab Uddin and Reem Mohammed; valued members of Fairfield’s EAL Community (see photos below).
Reem Mohamed has been an amazing role model for her fellow students. The dedication she has shown to her academic and social studies since she started at FHS has been inspiring especially as she came to the UK new to the English language and culture. Her determination and eagerness to learn English has enabled her to access the curriculum independently and to go on to take her GCSEs.
In her role as an Ambassador, she has shown empathy and understanding towards the challenges and difficulties that students new to English may be facing. She has used her own experience of being in their position, as a new arrival, to explain and interpret using student-friendly language where she did not share the first language with the student.
Reem, we are extremely grateful for all the time you have given to the Ambassador Project; you have developed invaluable skills for the future. As a team we wish you all the best in your future life; you will be missed by both students and teachers.
Shehab Uddin is a hardworking and trustworthy student, who is always happy to help.
One of his many achievements during his time at FHS was his recent visit to the British Council where he entered a competition speaking in Arabic. He conversed with two philologists in Arabic which is not his non-native language. What an impressive achievement! Keep it up Shehab!
Shehab has used his skills and knowledge to support and encourage our new arrivals so that they feel safe, settled, and valued from the start of their journey at Fairfield. His commitment to the Ambassador Project has given our newly arrived students reassurance during a time when they are experiencing substantial changes. There is no doubt that he has helped support and develop their confidence. Shehab should be immensely proud of himself. We wish him all the best for his future endeavours.
