Celebrating a decade of Dance by meeting Deanna
Continuing our celebration of a decade of Dance – celebrating our former students, this time we hear from Deanna Roberts, a former GCSE Dance student who is working in the Dance industry. Mrs Cambanakis has had the pleasure of working with her outside of school and she has gone from doing really well in her GCSE (her choreography was top of the class!) to being a well-respected teacher who connects with her students and excellent performer.
Deanna shares her story since leaving Fairfield:
“I am lucky and grateful enough to say I am still doing so much within the dance world.
“Fairfield was a great introduction into Dance and what the industry is all about and not only that but doing Dance at Fairfield connected me with RISE Youth Dance.
“I have gone onto further dance training and have a degree in Dance. I have taught Dance all over Bristol and the southwest through RISE Youth Dance and independently – I really love what I do! Dancing has always been a huge passion of mine and I take most pleasure in learning new dance styles.
“The dance world has given me incredible opportunities – I have been able to travel to South Africa to learn more about African dance and am currently travelling the Caribbean learning different dance styles and culture- it’s so much fun. When I am in the UK I make sure I take up as many workshops as possible as it’s really important to keep your dancing mind and body exposed to new things.
“My tip for anyone that has the dancing bug is to follow your heart. If you want something enough it will happen. I have always seen myself dancing one way or another and now it’s something I am able to say I do as a career and have done for many years.”
