A warm welcome from our Principal
It has been a term full of joy and warmth, despite the January weather. The energy within our school buildings has built upon the vibrant and purposeful end to Term 2. I would like to start by congratulating former student Serena Wiebe, who was recognised in the New Year’s Honours List. We are immensely proud of her achievements and the inspiration she continues to provide for our whole school community.
This term saw a series of visits from Headteachers across Bristol’s primary and secondary schools. It is always a privilege to open our doors to colleagues, and their feedback was heartening. Many commented specifically on the exemplary behaviour of our students and the warm, focused atmosphere that was present across the school. Furthermore, we successfully completed the Excalibur Safeguarding Review. Ensuring our students feel safe and supported is our absolute priority, and the review highlighted the robust systems we have in place to maintain a secure learning environment.
Our Year 11 students are showing great resilience as they sit their mock exams, while our Year 10 students have also begun their RE mocks. These assessments are crucial for identifying gaps in knowledge and building confidence. Additionally, a huge well done to our Language students currently undertaking their Modern Foreign Languages speaking exams. We know how nerve-wracking these can be, but the preparation has been fantastic.
Year 10 Parent Carer Evening and the Year 11 Core Subject Evening were wonder events, we always love having you in our building for face to face conversations.
Beyond the classroom, our theme this term is the environment. Our student-led Eco Team has been delivering passionate assemblies, challenging us all to think about our carbon footprint and how we can make our school a greener place to learn. We also stopped to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Through assemblies and tutor-time reflections, we explored the importance of standing up against prejudice and ensuring the lessons of the past are never forgotten.
To help our Year 11 students envision their next steps, a group recently visited the University of the West of England (UWE). It was a brilliant day that allowed students to explore campus life and consider the diverse pathways available to them after they leave us.
Finally, I would like to send our very best wishes to all members of our school community celebrating the Lunar New Year and observing Ramadan with friends and families.
