A fascinating, eye-opening visit to the Eden Project
Year 9 students had a fantastic and eye-opening day visiting the Eden Project in December. The day was led by Eden’s very own rainforest education specialists where we learnt about deforestation in global rainforests including some of the causes such as mining and agriculture. We learnt how many products we use come from rainforest ecosystems and the need to preserve them. Students explored how most coffee, palm oil, chocolate and even rubber for rubber gloves is often a resource which causes the destruction of major areas of the Amazon.
We then spent the rest of the morning exploring the tropical domes, where there was rushing waterfalls, hanging bridges and even the possibility to climb to the viewing platform right at the top of the ecosystem. We collected data about some of the species we are connected to realising just how important our connections to rainforests are even though we do not have them here in the UK.
Thank you to all staff at the Eden project for such a memorable day.
