Exploring immersive theatre & discovering how performances can put the audience at the centre of the action
Our Year 9 students have spent this term diving into the exciting world of Immersive Theatre, exploring performance that places the audience at the heart of the action. Working within a thrilling narrative centred on a missing child, students have stepped into the role of a specialist detective squad led by DS Helen Morton of Missing Persons (played by Miss Adams).
Throughout the project, students have unearthed evidence, searched detailed “crime scenes,” interviewed witnesses, and even recreated CCTV footage to build the story piece by piece.
They have also designed fully realised immersive evidence boards, complete with clues, theories, images, and classic red string connections—bringing the investigative world to life with creativity and flair.
This bold and dynamic new Year 9 scheme of work has been an enormous hit, offering pupils a fun, hands-on, and highly engaging insight into a very different style of theatre. By stepping beyond traditional performance and into an interactive, story-driven experience, students have gained a valuable understanding of how diverse and innovative theatre can be.
We are incredibly proud of the imagination, teamwork and commitment they have shown throughout this immersive journey.
