UWE Unlock Cyber Taster Day
14 of our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Unlock Cyber Taster Day at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol. The event took place at UWE’s School of Engineering and gave students a unique chance to dive into the world of cybersecurity through a series of engaging, hands-on activities.
Upon arrival, students were sorted into different coloured groups, each led by a group coordinator. Over the course of the day, they took part in four different activity sessions, each lasting 40 minutes, covering a variety of cybersecurity-related topics. These sessions were designed to introduce them to key concepts in a fun, accessible way—perfect for those with little or no prior experience.
The activities allowed students to explore different areas of digital security, from identifying threats and learning how to protect online data, to tackling real-world problems that cybersecurity experts face every day. It was a valuable learning experience that also sparked curiosity and interest in potential careers in the growing field of cyber technology.
The event concluded with the option of a short campus tour, offering a glimpse of university life and the impressive facilities at UWE. Many students came away inspired—not only by what they learned, but also by the idea of pursuing further study or a future career in cyber and tech-related fields.
We’re incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm, excellent behaviour, and engagement throughout the day. A big thank you to the team at UWE and the event organisers for hosting such an inspiring and educational day.
