Tutoring success online
18 FHS students are continuing to receive English tutoring online thanks to University of Bristol and UWE students volunteering through the charity Jacari.
The Fairfield students, who have English as a second language and some of whom may be disadvantaged, migrant, asylum-seeking and refugee children, are working hard with their tutors. They practice English language reading, writing and speaking skills to support their studies.
One Year 8 student said, “It’s fun and it doesn’t feel like learning.”
The students receive the weekly one-to-one time thanks to Jacari, a local charity which provides free tutoring for disadvantaged migrant, asylum-seeking, and refugee children in Oxford and Bristol.
In the coming weeks more Fairfield students will be receiving this support as Jacari has recruited more volunteers to help.
