The Final Magic Morning of the school year goes with a bang!
‘The science practicals were cool! I have never done anything like it before.’ –Lydia, Year 5
Fairfield hosts several Magic Morning events when primary school students can experience a taster session or two of Fairfield lessons.
On 20th May, 30 students from seven primary schools joined us for this year’s final Magic Morning. Year 9 student volunteers welcomed our student guests and answered questions about Fairfield and secondary school transition. Orla in Year 5 ‘liked how the Year 9s helped us and were really nice’.
The Year 9s then accompanied our primary school guests to a Science practical with Mr Hickey where they learned about safety, used Bunsen burners and experimented with rocket fuel. Mr Hickey was impressed with ‘this lovely group of students who brought a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity to the practical. It was a pleasure to introduce them to the laboratory and watch their eyes light up with every pop and fizz.’ Sam in Year 5 said he ‘especially enjoyed the oxygen experiment’.
The next lesson was with RE teacher, Miss Downing. Students came up with their own ‘Big Questions’ about life and shared them on the white board.
Callista in Year 5 thought ‘the RE discussions were interesting’ and Miss Downing was impressed with the depth of the questions from the group and the confidence and consideration in the answers and discussion.
The dates for the Magic Mornings in 2022/23 will be posted in Term 6.
