Multi-award winning & record-breaking beatboxer visits Fairfield as part of Music Mark School nomination
For the third time, Fairfield High School is honoured to be nominated a Music Mark School in recognition of its excellent and high-quality music education plus commitment to music, on an individual, school and community level. The endorsement and engagement with Bristol Beacon, including working with high acclaimed SK Shlomo, offers many enrichment and educational opportunities for students, with an emphasis on inclusivity, diversity and belonging.
To kick off this year’s collaboration (fittingly timed with the venue’s “once-in-a-generation transformation” and Black History Month) will be the delivery of assemblies from a Bristol Beacon coordinator promoting an exciting opportunity to visit its state-of-the-art studios. There, students can try their hands at music experimentation/collaboration, in addition to music production, DJ skills, rap and vocals, with the guidance and support of professional musicians.
Following this, beatboxer, producer and live looping technologist SK Shlomo will be sharing his expertise through assemblies/a workshop with LGBTQI+ students, culminating in a Saturday night performance at Bristol Beacon, as part of its opening celebrations.
Tim Roderick, Head of Music at Fairfield High School comments: “We are thrilled to again be receiving this accolade. Our eight year relationship with Bristol Beacon, formerly known as Bristol Plays Music, has given endless opportunities to offer a more representative and diverse Bristol-focused curriculum.
“We are particularly excited by the prospect of welcoming SK Shlomo to Fairfield, who has a rich and exciting career, having collaborated with musical geniuses Ed Sheeran, Bjork and Damon Albarn. A big thank you to Bristol Beacon for helping our music department to shine.”
Being a proud Music Mark School, Fairfield continues to offer those students wishing to pursue individual instruments a wide array of choices, including singing, piano, guitar, drums, woodwind, violin and brass, as well as providing personalised support for any Post-16 opportunities and pathways they may wish to choose.
