Magic Mornings at Fairfield
We enjoy welcoming Year 5 and 6 students to our Magic Mornings.
During one morning, Science teacher Mr Hickey invited the students to participate in two hands-on lab practicals. After a discussion about lab safety, students put on their goggles and set to work creating fizzling, popping rocket fuel.
Mr Hickey comments: “It is one of the highlights of my year. It is so great to see the young, eager students come into secondary school and use equipment like Bunsen burners and glassware, often for the first time. They get so excited; it makes their start in September more comfortable and they have more confidence when it comes to working in a science lab.”
After their science practical, our visiting Year 6 students joined a maths teacher who had them puzzling over polygons. The teacher commented:
“It was a pleasure to spend an hour with the students from local schools across the area. They were all highly engaged in some fun puzzle-solving by playing the ancient game of Tangrams which demonstrated their teamworking skills by working in small teams to complete each challenge. I look forward to meeting many of these young people when they start with us in less than a year!”
Fairfield Magic Mornings will continue throughout the year, but spaces fill up quickly. To book a place for your child visit our Transition page and complete the online registration form.
