LGBTQ+ club welcomes Trans Woman from a STEM background
As part of Pride month, we gave a warm welcome to Kaz who shared her experiences of being a Trans Woman in STEM. Four years has passed since she shared the news with her work colleagues at Rolls Royce she was transgender – this took huge courage and strength and, despite how scary it was, she states how very supportive the company was from Day 1… so much so that she was featured on the front page of the inhouse magazine. Kaz acknowledges that this probably wouldn’t have been the case 20 years ago, however the world is a different place now.
Our inspirational speaker also talked about Birmingham Pride and pride events in general, including her role as Vice Chair at Trans Pride South West – an organisation which provides support for the trans and nonbinary community.
Kaz and the students bonded over their fondness of the Netflix hit ‘Heartstopper’. Kaz spent her whole life hiding her identity and explained how this show was so moving and positive, so much so that it brought tears to her eyes.
Thank you to Kaz for this uplifting session.
