Former student signs professional football contract with Bristol City FC
Former student and GCSE Sport Science student Jamie Knight-Lebel has just signed his first professional Football contract with Bristol City FC at the age of just 17 penning a three year deal. Jamie who plays centre back is in his first year of his Scholarship has been regularly featuring for the clubs under 23 team as well as their Under 18s team. Jamie has also recently gained international recognition, representing Canada Under 20s vs Costa Rica.
Jamie joined the Bristol City youth set up while he was in Year 8, Jamie represented Fairfield and would always play for the school teams.
Jordan Goodchild, Director of the Physical Education & Performing Arts Faculty comments:
“Jamie’s talent was always very clear to see, he was exceptionally quick, had two great feet and with a great understanding of the game. The thing that stood out the most for Jamie was his modesty, he was always unassuming, always wanted to learn and always displayed an amazing work ethic and attitude. Jamie was an outstanding student and his Football always came secondary to his academic studies.”
What makes this an even bigger achievement is that Jamie is the first person from Fairfield to gain a professional contract in the past 15 years. To gain a professional contract in your first year of Scholarship is extraordinary; they are clearly securing a major talent and fending off interest from premiership clubs.
We are delighted to announce that Romani Rowe and Raekwon Nelson, current Y11 students, have also just signed a Scholarship with Bristol City following Jamie’s Footsteps.
Many congratulations to all three superstars.
