Fairfield’s Ecoteam plants an impressive 140 trees
On Wednesday 1st December, nine members of Fairfield’s Ecoteam supported Bristol City Council and the ‘One Tree Per Child’ initiative by taking part in tree planting on Purdown in Lockleaze. This is part of a Nationwide project to connect existing greenspaces and woodlands across the UK to create an uninterrupted wildlife corridor across England. Not only is biodiversity in our local area enhanced, but also the ongoing fight against Global Climate Change.
The students achieved a combined total of over 140 individual trees planted. Not only did they learn to plant a sapling but also the importance of mulching to protect the vulnerable trees over winter and maximise the nutrient content in the soil immediately around the roots. We hope to volunteer for future such projects in the Spring.
