Fairfield’s awe inspiring Night at the Musicals
Fairfield High School delighted its 600 strong audience with three evenings of “A Night at the Musicals” including classics from these much loved musicals: Greatest Showman, Moana, Billy Elliot, The Lion King, Hamilton, Hairspray, Mamma Mia and Grease. Without exception the energy, talent and finesse was staggering, as students either whirled around the stage with spellbinding choreographed dances, sung tear-jerking duos or beautiful solos.
Over 110 students participated in rehearsals since September and appeared in multiple musicals, with a fine balance of minor and major parts, meaning that many had their own moment to shine. The support and energy shown by all, regardless of their role or prominence, was clear to see.
Natalie, Thompson, Head of Performing Arts comments: “It was a tough decision choosing just one musical, which is why we decided to perform eight from different genres and eras. This was an even harder task for our young people as they quickly changed between character, costume, accents and staging. The Performing Arts staff are so proud of the dedication and hard work that the students have put in over many months to achieve such a brilliant and memorable event.”
Quotes from some of the students include:
“Being part of the musical has given me so much confidence with my acting and performing and I feel so lucky to have been a part of it!” – Leila
“I really enjoyed being in the musical as it really gives you a taster of what performing on stage is like. Especially with the costume changes and professional lights, mics and set” – Rosa
“It has been a great experience opening up many opportunities! It has been fun to choose which musicals we have been able to do this year!” – Ethan
