Bringing Shakespeare to life: Y9 explore The Tempest with Bright Torches
On Friday 28th November the English department was very pleased to have Tom Davey from Bright Torches run a workshop on Shakespeare and acting. Tom Davey ran two workshops for some Year 9 students to support their understanding of ‘The Tempest’ which they are studying in English. The session focused on drama-based activities to explore the emotions and impact of lines and phrases in the play on both the characters and the audience, as well as different ways to deliver those lines.
Mr Sinclair said- “The workshop was brilliant! Tom had a 3D printed model of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre which helped students understand different staging and what a Shakespeare play would have felt like. Tom was really good at bringing the acting to life… Students engaged very well and enjoyed taking on the roles of Prospero and Caliban in different styles.”
Bright Torches ran workshops with our pupils in 2023 and 2024 and we were pleased to welcome Tom and his brilliant workshop back to the building.
