A Mycologists Day Out

Our Year 7 Nature Club members joined Avon Wildlife Trust volunteers at Grow Wilder on a glorious sunny day this October to search for Fungi. This season with all the rain after the hot dry summer made it an excellent temperament for a wide range of wild mushrooms. 

With local experts the Year 7s were taught about the essential part fungi play in ecosystems around the world. Sophie Keates, Learning Officer for Avon Wildlife Trust, was impressed by the knowledge and excitement shown by the Fairfield students for the fungi we came across. 

They were ‘real mycologists’ she said.
