A Musical Memory from Fairfield’s Past
We recently received a heartfelt message from the husband of former Fairfield pupil Lynda (maiden name Bradbury, at Fairfield Grammar School approximately 1962-67) now living near Bordeaux, France. At 73, Lynda reflects fondly on her school days, and one memory in particular stands out: singing the beautiful Christmas carol “As with Gladness Men of Old.”
Lynda recalls it being performed to a special arrangement by her then music teacher, possibly Mrs. de Vere. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 20 years ago and is now wheelchair-bound, but these musical memories remain vivid and cherished.
We’re reaching out to our Fairfield community to help us rediscover this piece of our musical heritage. Does anyone remember this arrangement or Mrs. de Vere?
