Scholars Programme gives students university-style experience
We were fortunate enough to have sent some of our Year 10 and 11 Fairfield students on the brilliant Club Scholars Programme, where they had the opportunity to experience university-style learning. The report of this programme has been released; this shows that the students made fantastic progress and overall a positive experience. Six students achieved a 1st or a 2:1 in their final assignment, and nine students achieved 100% tutorial attendance. What a fantastic achievement.
Students were introduced to the programme with a live, online University launch event with information, advice and guidance from a university partner. They were also shown the ropes with the use of a Virtual Learning Environment, with support from a PhD tutor, so they could access additional resources, submit assignments and homework.
They then took part in virtual tutorials led by a PhD tutor, using independent research and critical thinking. In keeping with university life, students also completed a challenging university-style assignment, marked by PhD tutors using a standardised mark scheme. At the end they received a certificate and were invited to take part in a Graduation Event to celebrate their achievements.
The Scholars Programme is a nationwide initiative, in which more than 240 researchers worked with over 5,500 students in 370 schools.
