Students shine in Maths Challenges at both KS3 & 4

We have some amazing results from our students on the UKMT (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust) Maths Challenges this year. We are very proud of all the students that took part in the Challenges, they have shown their love of Maths and problem solving and have tried very hard, even during a very difficult year with lots of changes. Congratulations to all of them.

We started the year with the MOG (Maths Olympiad for Girls), with Ivy, Niamh, Nia and Alice, in Year 11, doing an amazing job and making the school very proud.

On the Intermediate Maths Challenge, which took part during the lockdown, we had 74 students from Years 10 and 11, with 33 of them (45%) getting a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate. This was a particularly difficult challenge, as this was the first time that this type of competition was done online, and students did really well with all the new changes. Special mention to Niamh with a Gold (and therefore, competing on the Pink Kangaroo) and Sydney who was first for his year.

In the Spring, 110 Year 7s and 8s took part in the Junior Maths Challenge. We had 50 Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates, almost half of the students!! Very well done.

I want to give a special mention to Anya, Theodore and Jake who received a Gold certificate and passed to the second round, the Junior Kangaroo. They tried very hard in the test and made everyone in the Maths department really proud. They are only Year 8; we can’t wait to see what they can do when they get to KS4!

Jake even got a Merit, which means that he was between the best 25% participants in all England and Wales. What an amazing result for a very difficult year. Well done, Jake!
