Shaping the Future: Year 11 Daisy takes part in city-wide design challenge
One of our Year 11 Engineering Manufacturing students, Daisy, has been successfully accepted onto a highly respected apprenticeship programme, Shape My City. This exciting opportunity will run throughout the year and offers valuable hands-on experience in the industry. Daisy has a real passion for engineering and has been determined to pursue a career in this field for several years — we’re incredibly proud of her achievement!
Shape My City brings young people from across the city together to help design community spaces – with this year St Werburgh’s City Farm being the recipient. The students’ challenge was to create community spaces for the farm, with a particular focus on more efficient spaces that maximised the site’s massing and embraced sustainable design.
In a short period of time, the students learnt the complexities of architectural design from learning to draw plans to scale, designing spatial configurations, to access routes. Shape My City is an award winning year-long, free-to-access programme (15-18 years), made possible by the support of many brilliant & inspiring Built Environment partners.
In addition to Shape My City, a special thanks goes to Design West & Paul Blakemore, photographer.
