Fairfield’s hidden gem – a fantastic outdoor resource
Fairfield is fortunate to have some relatively unknown outdoor space – a polytunnel and the surrounding pond area (together with seating). It is proving a valuable resource with plenty of potential across the school community.
The pond is currently home to a range of wildlife, including newts, tadpoles, snails, pond skaters and common darters.
Already the space is being used by the following subjects:
English – Nature poetry and reflective writing
Art – Observational drawing, painting, and photography
Maths – Measuring soil volume, seed spacing, and plant layout
Science/Geography – Ecology, biodiversity, and environmental topics
DT – Designing and making signage for plants
Music – Exploring natural sounds in composition
Pastoral – 1:1 or small group wellbeing sessions
If any students would like to find out more about the Gardening Club which focuses on this area, please email Dr Ross.
