Transforming cardboard into art: Workshops with James Lake
The Art department welcomed the artist James Lake for two days of workshops, during which 40 Year 9 pupils learnt how to create sculptures using cardboard. James Lake has exhibited artworks internationally and uses the medium of cardboard to create large scale 3D sculptural piece.
James bought an amazing range of his fantastic sculptures into school and these really inspired our pupils to be ambitious with their ideas. On the first day pupils worked to the theme of natural forms and created 3D shells, plants and fossils, the next day pupils created 3D trainers and shoes. It was brilliant seeing pupils transform sheets of flat cardboard into detailed 3D works of art.
We would like to thank James for sharing his remarkable talent and inspiring creativity. If you have a moment, please take a look at his website — it truly speaks for itself!
