Talented FHS students perform to a full house on main stage at Bristol Beacon
On Friday 28th June a group of Year 9 students had the opportunity to perform to a full house in the main hall at the newly refurbished Bristol Beacon. Band members Bruno, Charlie, Louis and Jed whose band Airbag is an homage to the Radiohead song, opened the event, which was a KS3 singing concert organised by the Bristol Beacon bringing together children and families from all across Bristol. The band played two songs, firstly an original composition and then Radiohead’s ‘Karma Police’ which had the whole room applauding.
After the singing concert had finished, Cara and Ismay were the headline act. Initial technical difficulties with a piano meant they had to wait on stage for almost five minutes while the technical staff swapped over to a new piano. Rather than getting nervous and being put off by this, Cara got the whole place laughing as she engaged the audience with jokes, then sat down and performed a Suzanne Vega song by herself, singing and playing the piano. Ismay then impressed the audience with her solo piano recital of an Olafur Arnalds’ piece followed by together closing the evening with Ismay on piano and Cara singing ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’, Cara urging the audience to join in and sing along, the crowd responding by holding up the lights on their phones and singing for a truly beautiful moment. Their confidence belying their age completely, they were applauded right until they left the stage.
Head of Music Mr Roderick commented that “It was a wonderful evening, although it was a very long day we had a lot of fun and they were so professional. They had the audience right there with them, what an experience. I couldn’t have been more proud of them and they really put Fairfield High School on the map tonight in the hearts and minds of all those parents, they were just awesome!”.
