All invited to cheer on our Y10s at Woodcock Shield Final at Ashton Gate Stadium
We are excited and proud in equal measure that our Year 10 football team will be playing at Ashton Gate, in the hope of clinching the historic Woodcock Shield – everyone is welcome to come and cheer along the team (all tickets are free) on Tuesday 21st May at 5pm. Even more humbling is the presence of Bristol City Legends, including former players Geoff Merrick, Louis Carey and Scott Murray, who played in the Shield when they were at school, and who are paying £350 for the stewards out of their own pocket! The Legends will also be presenting the Shield to the winning team.
The Year 10s have been playing exceptionally well all season, winning all of their games in the league and the Woodcock Shield so far, in which is turning out to be a remarkable season.
In the League the team have recorded wins against City Academy, Redland Green, St Bede’s and Bristol Brunel Academy to lead Fairfield to a Bristol Schools Final vs Cotham. The final was played at Golden Hill Shine Football Pitches and was spectated by a large crowd of parents and teachers from both Schools which made for an electric atmosphere. After a tense first 20 minutes Fairfield took the lead through Captain Joe Steward who headed in at a corner. Fairfield went in to half time with a slim 1-0 lead.
Fairfield managed to take a 2-0 lead when Alexandros coolly slotted one home when put through on goal by Billy Cuthbert. After creating some excellent chances, Fairfield was guilty of not taking its opportunities to make it three. This then led to a frantic 10 minutes where Cotham were awarded a penalty and missed, but in a subsequent corner managed to pull one back with 5 minutes to play.
Fairfield defended resolutely withstanding a barrage of attacks and managed to hold on to win its first Bristol District title in 20 years! Player of the match going to Alfie Peake who always puts in 100% and showed a fantastic attitude.
In a continued winning streak, Fairfield then became South Glos winners by winning the match 2-1 on Wednesday 1st May at Keynsham Sommerdale pitches!
In the Woodcock Shield the team have beaten Orchard, St Bedes, Winterbourne and Downend to lead Fairfield to the final of the oldest running School Boys competition in the country.
Massive Congratulations from all of Team Fairfield and wishing you all the best for the 21st.
