Supporting our young carers
Fairfield is committed to ensuring young carers receive all the support that they deserve in school. If you feel your child may be a young carer please let us know by emailing information to our Young Carer Support Worker, Miss Hornsby.
A young carer is someone under 18 who helps to look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem. This will probably involve the young person carrying out extra jobs around the home such as cooking, cleaning, or helping someone get dressed and move around. A weekly games club is available to young carers at Fairfield, as well as drop-in times should they have any concerns, struggles, or ideas of what could support them best. Games club is a great way for young carers to socialise with others who have similar responsibilities.
There will also be a trip in March 2023 on national Young Carer Action Day that will be made available to pupils identified as young carers.
