Cooking volunteers needed for local children
The Vench (Lockleaze Youth and Play space and Community Centre) is looking for cooking volunteers to join its team! An essential element of the Vench is providing the children with a warm, nutritious meal after school and during the school holidays, but it would not be able to accomplish cooking for 30-80 people without the support of volunteers.
The Vench is looking for:
- Term-time: 1-2 volunteers on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons from 3-6pm
- Holidays: 1-4 volunteers any day between Monday-Friday from 10-2pm
Volunteering in the kitchen involves: cutting, grating, boiling or baking and then serving the food (sometimes with the help of its young volunteers that are very keen to help serve) and then washing up (with the support of a dishwasher and the children who try to pre-wash their plates). Its recipes are based on what has been donated and what children tend to like eating which is: jacket potatoes, fish fingers, potato wedges, pasta bakes, curry’s, stir fry or any other recipe volunteers may enjoy making!
During the shift volunteers can help themselves to tea, coffee, or squash, plus breaks when needed. It also tries to make enough food so that staff and volunteers can enjoy some too.
Any queries, please email: [email protected] or call 07720 098879.
Thank you in advance for your support!
