Remote Learning

Overview

Our remote learning offer has been drawn up to be in line with current government remote learning requirements MS Teams will be used for teachers to post assignments, for students’ submission of work, and for staff to student feedback. Students can communicate with teachers via Teams. We will offer live lessons where possible.

Impacts of staff absence

It should be noted that there are times when our provision may be impacted by staff absence. For example, some staff may be self-isolating and able to work remotely, whilst others may be isolating, unwell and unable to work. In the case of staff absence, other colleagues in school are supporting to provide work for classes whose teacher is not able to work.

Daily changes to staffing levels mean it is not possible to inform students in advance which lessons will be delivered live and which will have work set in Assignments. Students need to check their Teams calendars in the morning for live lessons.

Checking for work:

  1. Live lessons:
Students at home should check their MS Teams calendar in the morning to see any live lessons in their calendars. Teachers are asked to post any live lessons the day before the lesson will take place. There may be a live lesson where the group is taught as a tutor group, and if staff are available, or where there is a member of staff available working from home to deliver a live lesson. Live lessons may be set by any teacher of a subject so students should join any live lesson in their calendar.
  2. Assignments:
Students should check for assignments that were set for the lessons the previous day that did not have live lessons. Teachers must post work for students at home within 24 hrs of the lesson taking place in school.

Lessons: Where the class is taught in tutor groups*, a live lesson MAY be offered if the teacher is available and able to do so. Teachers are to post lesson in calendar the day before the timetabled lesson.

Tutor time: Live tutor time will be offered by tutor where staffing allows.

Lessons: work will be set on Teams Assignments within 24 hrs of the timetabled lesson.

If there is a teacher of a subject who is self-isolating at home but fit to work, they may offer a live lesson for students who are also at home. Students should look out for live lessons in their calendar from any teacher.

If students from various groups are in isolation, either in addition to whole tutor groups or just groups of students from some tutor groups Tutor time: We will try and offer a live tutor time, but this will not be with the student’s own tutor as they will be delivering tutor time in school. Students may be invited to a live tutor time with a tutor whose whole group is isolating.

Lessons: Teacher will post classwork into Teams Assignments for students who are missing from their lessons.

This will be within 24 hrs of the lesson being taught in school

If there is a teacher of a subject who is self-isolating at home but fit to work, they may offer a live lesson for students who are also at home. This would not necessarily be at their timetabled lesson time as it may affect students in different tutor groups.

This may not be students’ own teacher, but one who teaches other groups the same subjects. Students should look out for any live lessons in their calendar, even if they are not invited by their own teacher.

If whole Year group is in Isolation Tutor time: Live tutor time will be offered by tutors where staffing allows.

Lessons: Live lessons to be offered, in accordance with the students’ timetabled lessons where staff availability allows. If not possible due to staff absence, then work will be set on assignments within 24 hrs of the timetabled lesson.
